Euroleague Draw: 4 Terps, 4 Different Groups

The Euroleague Top 16 draw was held last week, and the four Terps who made it to this stage will play in four different groups. (Click the group names if you want deeper analysis.)

Group E: Drew Nicholas and Panathinaikos
Group F: Terence Morris and Regal FC Barcelona
Group G: James Gist and Partizan mt:s
Group H: Sarunas Jasikevicius and Fenerbahce Ulker

Also in Group E with Panathinaikos is Unicaja, which was Juan Dixon's team before he was suspended for steroid use last winter. He could rejoin the club after February 12.

The Euroleague is an annual tournament for the top professional teams from across Europe, held concurrently with those teams' regular national league seasons. In the recently concluded Euroleague regular season, 24 teams competed in four round robin groups, with the top four in each group advancing. In the Top 16, each new group of four teams will play a round robin schedule of 6 games (each team playing the other three teams in their group home-and-home), and the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Games start Wednesday, January 19th. Come back daily this week for video highlights of all four Terps from the Euroleague regular season!

These players are indeed holding a critical role for their respective teams in the Euroleague. With the action expected to kick off this Wednesday, it should be interesting to see how they will fair in the competition. It would be stupid to assume that whomever had success in the regular season will continue to be dominant at this next round because this is an entirely new ball game as the records go back to 0-0.
