The Baltimore Examiner ran a story this weekend on Baltimore area players in Europe. It mainly focuses on players from Baltimore schools like Towson and Loyola, but John Gilchrist also gets a mention for his great first season in Israel.

Exree Hipp Down Under

Exree Hipp (1992-96) was signed in March to play for Port City Power in Gladstone, Australia. Before signing down under, it looks like he was waived in November by the CBA's Albany Patroons.

Since leaving Maryland, Exree has been a frequent candidate for "Where Are They Now?" type articles in Sports Illustrated and ESPN thanks to his memorable name. He's best known in his post-collegiate career for playing as member of the Harlem Globetrotters for several years.

Kurtis Shultz: NFL Strength Coach

Kurtis Shultz (1991-95) was recently hired as the new Strength and Conditioning Coach for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had the same position for the Minnesota Vikings in 2004-05, until the coaching shake-up in Minnesota this off-season. Sports Illustrated had a great feature article on his workouts last summer.

In 2003, Kurtis had been the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Cincinatti Bengals. Prior to that, he was a strength and conditioning coach for the University of Maryland.

Walt Williams on Comcast Sportsnet

Walt Williams (1988-92) is working as a commentator for Comcast Sportsnet's Wizards Post-Game show.


Gary Williams credited Walt Williams numerous times for saving the basketball program at Maryland. Walt chose to stay and play for Gary when several other high profile players transferred away after Maryland was hit by sanctions at the end of the Bob Wade era.
