Lonny Baxter Signs in Italy, then Arrested in DC

Lonny Baxter (1998-2002) was arrested by the Secret Service on weapons charges last night a few blocks from the White House in Washington, DC.

If he doesn't go to jail for this, he has a one year deal waiting for him with Montepaschi Siena (Italy) of the Euroleague, which he just signed last week.

Edited 8/24/06: Baxter pleaded guilty and got 60 days in jail after the judge denied the prosecutor's request for probation as part of a plea deal. He won't be out in time to join his new Italian team for the start of the season.

Edited 8/25/06: Team officials for Siena weren't expecting such a long sentence, and now Baxter's career in Italy could be in doubt, since Baxter should have joined the team's training camp next Monday in preparation for the the Italian season, which starts on October 8.
